MEET Dr. Iris K. Barrett

Dr. Iris K. Barrett, Founder of “The Word is My Life” Training Ministry, has experienced life-changing freedom and wholeness through knowledge and application of God’s Word.  She is called by God to teach His Word and minister hope to the body of Christ as she is led by the Spirit of God.
During her 15+ year career with Corning, Inc., Dr. Barrett led major training and human resources initiatives as a Quality Manager and HR Director. Called out of business and industry in 2002, Dr. Barrett now focuses on sharing the knowledge of God's Word and the excellent greatness of Jesus Christ, His Son.  She works with individuals, colleges, churches, and other organizations.   
Dr. Barrett's skill base is extensive.  She has taught teens and adults and has written Christian training materials for over 25 years.  This website contains many of her ministry writings, particularly the "From My LIfe's Journey" tab.  In addition, she is an insightful public speaker and trainer. Dr. Barrett specializes in one-on-one Biblical encouragement counseling and offers sessions for individuals and groups. She partners with Christian Community Outreach Ministries in Hickory and serves as a biblical counselor there, ministering to CCOM's clients and others in the community seeking guidance.  Prayer ministry is vital to "The Word is My Life" Training Ministry, and Dr. Barrett enjoys instructing others in developing an effective prayer life.  She ministers to, prays for, and disciples those interested in walking in the call of Christ upon their lives, particularly women in ministry.  Dr. Barrett's purpose on this earth is to help others find their way.  She is called by God to edify the body of Christ.
A member of Christ Alive Church in Newton, NC, Dr. Barrett serves on the intercessory prayer and altar prayer teams.  She is also director/advisor of Christ Alive's Bible College cohort, an extension of Bridges Christian College.
Barrett's leadership development work extends to the field of education.  She is an adjunct professor of Adult Education at Regent University, teaching Supervision and Professional Development as well as Leadership & Organizations, Global Issues in Education, Christian Worldview for Educators, Multicultural Education, and Advanced Study of Worldview.

Education:  BSPH (Bachelor of Science in Public Health) from UNC-Chapel Hill; MBA (Master of Business Administration) from Duke University; Doctor of Education with a concentration in Adult Education from Regent University
