June 2013 Greatness Is In You

From My Life’s Journey                                                       June, 2013

Topic:  Greatness Is In You

I went to visit my parents the other day, and I shared with my mom a particular hardship I was experiencing.  I really wanted a little sympathy but received encouragement that touched me deeply.  She said, “Iris, you have greatness in you.”  I said, “Wow, Mom!  Thank you!”  She admitted that she had just heard a minister preach on the greatness of God’s people, so this wasn’t an original idea (smile), but her uplifting words automatically shifted my focus from “poor Iris” to “overcoming Iris.”  As a matter of fact, those words meant so much to me that I decided to speak the same words to you this month.

There is greatness in you, my sister in Christ!  How can this be?  Well, the Greater One (Jesus Christ) lives within you.  As you walk in alignment with Jesus in you, His greatness will be seen through you.  This greatness will cause you to excel when the world is capsizing … be strengthened when others grow weak … see a path of hope when others see only doom.  Can this happen for me?  Yes, absolutely.  But you must stay faithful in your walk with God!

First … Be in the Word and in regular communication with your Father God.  The more you digest eternal truths and open your heart to Him, the more you will understand that you are already seated in heavenly places with Christ (Eph. 2:6).  The less you’re in the Word and communing with God, the more you will see yourself as only a natural being, full of flaws.  The Bible says to set your mind and thoughts on things above (Col. 3:1-2), so you are lifted higher.

Second … Be willing to walk a tighter road – one that is not broad and wide.  The Word says that wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: But strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it (Matt. 7:13-14).  God gives me instruction on how He wants me to live, take care of my body, and relate to others.  He requires me to live a wise, disciplined life.  As you grow in spiritual maturity, God will require more of you, so trust Him regarding your path (Ps. 16:11).  Remember, the path of greatness is a narrow one!

Third … Be willing to make changes in your life as you are led by God.  We are transformed or changed by the renewing of our minds (Rom. 12:2).  If God gives you a “different mind” regarding some part of your life, heed His instructions.  Sometimes God deals with us to purge ourselves of questionable behaviors, questionable relationships, and bad situations that prevent us from moving forward in life.  Seek the face of God regarding anything in your life that has you stagnant or moving backwards.

Despite what you see or feel, believe that there is greatness in you!  And according to your faith, be it unto you (Matt. 9:29).  Also, trust God without reservation where your life is concerned, obey his promptings, and you will find favor overtaking you.  Please, though, wait on Him to open doors for you.  Don’t make your own way; it will only lead to missteps.  God invested the life of His Son Jesus so you could achieve success in this life.  Pure greatness! Make Him proud!

Ever onward, ever forward~
